How to get smooth, soft and kissable lips

I dont know about you, but if there's anything I hate more than dry lips its dry, CRACKED and CHAPPED lips.

The skin on my lips gets dry and chapped super fast. And when it does, it irritates me. Like real bad.

So I do everything I can to ensure that I always have super soft, smooth lips.

There are only 2 simple steps to this: 1) Hydrate, and 2) Exfoliate.

To hydrate your lips, always ensure that you use a lip balm. This is a substance which forms a layer on lips, hydrating them and at the same time protecting them as well. It is recommended that you re-apply the lip balm whenever your lips feel dehydrated.

Lip balms come in a variety of versions: lip butters, chapsticks, liquid balms and so on. Most of them contain petroleum jelly or beeswax as the main ingredient. But beware of fake products that claim to smoothen your lips - these contain mineral oil which on application may make your lips look shiny, but dont really do anything to hydrate your lips.

In view of that, let me share with you some of my FAV lip products that I use to protect and nourish:

1) Burts Beeswax lip balm:

This is an amazing, amazing product. It is native to the US, but you can find it in India at online shopping stores like Homeshop18, alibaba etc. The product looks like this:

This product nourishes your lips without giving them a shine. This is because it uses beeswax instead of petroleum jelly. It also gives your lips a minty and slightly tingling and cooling feeling, which I personally love.

Find more info about this product on http://www.burtsbees.com/

2) Oriflame TenderCare

When i was first introduced to this product, it was showcased as one that was supposed to be 'legendary'. Though at that point of time I used to wonder what was so great about it, after using it, I discovered why it was so famous. It has the quality of the Vaseline (petroleum jelly) that's available in the Arab countries. And believe me, that is a really, really high quality. It not only moistens your lips and nourishes them, but also gives them a 'glossy' finish. And the packaging is so, so cute and adorable! Compact and very easy to carry around, in your handbag or purse or even pocket.

This product is available only through Oriflame Consultants and is on discounted offer this month - Rs 119 for 15 ml. Also available this month is the Limited Edition of TenderCare in a delicious vanilla fragarance. If you live in India and would like to order this one or the vanilla version above a quantity of 5, post a comment down below and I will get back to you.

3) Sweet Lemon Lip Butter by The Body Shop

I had high expectations from this product, but somehow it hasn't come up to the ranks of my favourite. Simply for the fact that it is too rich and creamy and it left a white layer on my lips. I like my lip balms to nourish my lips and leave them in the same colour that they originally were - not wash them out and make them look pale. The scent of this lip butter is very nice if you're the sort of person who loves lemon cream pie. Very lemony and sweet, just as the name of the lip butter says.

So like I said this is not my top choice and I use this rarely, but if you dont mind the whitish colour, go ahead and try this one. There are lip butters available at The Body Shop in a variety of other flavours as well.
Priced at Rs. 245 for 10 ml. Available at The Body Shop.

I typically apply these through the day and also religiously before going to bed, so that my lips are nice and hydrated by the time I wake up in the morning.

For exfoliation (i.e to remove all the dead skin cells) just rub your toothbrush over your lips after brushing your teeth, like scrubbing your lips. This sloughs away all the dead skin. Remember, exfoliation works better if you have nourished your lips with a lip balm previously. And remember to use a lip balm with SPF if you spend a lot of time outdoors, so that the sun's rays dont darken your lips.

Hope this post was helpful. May you get soft and kissable lips from now on :)

Hydrating-ly Yours,
Diva-licious!
